Abstract

The purpose of the article is to study the main directions of development of modern propellerrudder ship complexes in favor of increasing the controllability of the ship and saving fuel consumption on the ship, with an emphasis on the development of rudders. This goal is achieved by analyzing the results of achievements in the relevant industry by modern companies developing rudder propeller systems. As a result of the study of the main directions of development of modern marine rudder propeller complexes, the following approaches were identified: changing the design of the rudder propeller complex by, for example, extracting such elements as a fairing, a fairing insert and a propeller hub (Wärtsilä company); the use of a propeller rudder complex with a flap and in combination with a special KSR Rudder support bearing unit (Bekker Marine System); changing the position of the propeller-rudder complex with a rudder design with a curved leading edge (Bekker Marine System); implementation of a propeller-rudder complex in the form of a propeller-rudder angular column (Aquamaster - Rauma Ltd); an innovative propeller system with an active steering nozzle Gate Rudder (Wärtsilä, Kuribayashi Steamship Co, etc.) was proposed. The proposed innovations result in, for example, a 3 7% reduction in fuel consumption (Wärtsilä) or an increase in the ship's controllability due to the fact that the rudder angle of +/- 65 degrees and an additional 45 degrees of flap angle provide high maneuverability of the vessel. and good position holding (Bekker Marine System).
