Abstract

The growth of maritime activities and cargo transportation leads to a significant release of ballast water into the environment. This causes serious environmental problems, as thousands of species of aquatic organisms are transported through ballast water, along with other forms of pollution. This article discusses the importance of ballast water control and management by evaluating different monitoring methods. In particular, the possibilities of using remote monitoring technologies to avoid delays associated with water samples when ships enter a port are considered. The article analyzes various approaches to monitoring, considers schemes for installing additional nodes, operation and processing of the information received. The introduction of advanced technologies for remote monitoring of ballast water will save time for ships by bypassing the need to collect and analyze ballast water samples before the start of cargo operations in the port, which will lead to optimization of the time previously spent on these processes, contributing to the efficiency and speed of ship handling in the port.
