Abstract

At the current stage, the competitiveness of graduates of Ukrainian higher education institutions on the domestic and international labor market is becoming more and more relevant and thus increases its influence on determining the priority directions of the educational process. Under the conditions of reforming higher education in Ukraine in accordance with the requirements of the Bologna Process, the share of independent work by students has increased significantly. Therefore, there is a question of effective organization of extracurricular work, in particular for the development of professional competences of future specialists. «Strategy for the development of higher education in Ukraine for 2022-2032» is a document approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, which clearly defines the purpose of higher education in Ukraine – «intellectual, cultural and professional development of the individual» [24, p.19]. In this regard, the Ministry of Education and Culture of Ukraine outlines the fully expected result of the implementation of the «Strategy» as «the creation of a modern and effective system of higher education that meets the needs of citizens, the economy and society, has a decent reputation and is competitive on the domestic and global market of educational services» [17 ]. The creation of an effective system of higher education is an urgent need for the training of qualified specialists in absolutely all branches, including maritime. «Institutions of higher maritime education should provide students with well-planned and purposeful training aimed at developing personal qualities and professional skills» [13, p. 105]. I am pleased to note that many of my colleagues, who instill the culture of speech communication in students of higher education in the maritime field, point to the practical significance of «analysis of the state of formation of communication skills in this category of students» [16, p. 217].

Therefore, the level of mastery of communicative competences by a graduate of a maritime higher education institution is an important indicator of his professional competence and therefore fully justifies the relevance of our scientific research.
