Abstract

This article is devoted to the history of the design, construction and operation of ships from the Ukrainian river fleet, during the period of 1823 to 1963, as well as the activities of the main shipbuilding enterprises of Ukraine that ensured cargo and passenger transportation on the rivers of our country. The article analyses the composition of the river fleet depending on sailing conditions and draws attention to the need to build ships for cargo and passenger transportation not only on the Middle and the Lower Dnipro river, but also on smaller rivers (for example, the Desna). The article mentions ship projects developed in Ukraine, in particular, project number 860 for operation on the Dnipro river and project number 1867 with the right to enter sea waters, which were not built in our country, but after their significant modernisation could be used for the construction of modern passenger ships.
